Welcome to my "Shkola" shrine!

"Shkola" is a russian series that aired between January 11 and May 27th of 2010. It has only one season consisting of 69 episodes and was directed by Valeria Gay Germanika.

The series revolves around the 9th grade students of a public school in Moscow; 9"A" was (apparently) a 'role model' class under the supervision of the teacher Anatoly Germanovich, recognized in 2009 as Teacher of the Year, but everything changes when the new student, Ilya Epifanov arrives and suddenly is accused of causing Germanovich a stroke in the middle of a school ceremony held in his birthday. In addition, Germanovich's granddaughter (who used to be homeschooled) rejoins 9"A" and becomes, probably, the most problematic teenager in school.

What's really interesting in Shkola is that it's made in such a raw, organic way that you get to sympathize and understand every character and its motivations and decisions.

If you want to go further in my shrine (which I hope so) and explore certain aspects of this series that I love so much, you have to consider two things:

  • To this date, there are only 10 episodes with english subtitles available on Youtube (all the credits to the youtube channel 'Shkola English subtitles'), so to have a more detailed idea of what was going on, I had to read the russian comments below every episode (which I had to translate of course) and compared them based on things I read in some articles that described characters and some parts of the plot; which bringes me to the other point:
  • Based in my experience, there's little to no information available about Shkola in this part of the internet; to get more results you have to search it in russian and still it doesn't bring you like a ton of information. It's a possibility that I'm not searching the correct way, I just do what I can and if you have suggestions I'll be glad to hear them.

  • The purpose of doing this shrine is to give more diffusion to Shkola despite the language barrier and show you why it resonated so much with me. Besides, since it's not very well known in this side of the world, I want this website to become some sort of archive for the related lost media (which, as far as I know, it's not being searched).

So, in case you know something about this series and you have information I don't and want to add/share/correct something, please let me know, I'm open to suggestions.

    Here's my guestbook. You're welcome.
